Teachers' Workshop

A methodical approach to training educators on how to teach Slovak folk dance to children focuses on transforming complex, regional movements into a progressive, age-appropriate curriculum that prioritizes rhythm, play, and cultural context. Led by Alfred Lincke, an expert instructor and choreographer from Slovakia, this training equips teachers with the pedagogical tools to break down distinct Slovak syncopations and styling—such as the stamps of the čardáš or the fluid circles of the karička—into foundational stepping and clapping exercises. Rather than forcing rigid choreography early on, Lincke's methodology emphasizes using traditional folk games (hry), storytelling, and rhythmic imitation to naturally develop a child's coordination, spatial awareness, and posture. Instructors learn how to systematically advance children from simple musical games to structured group and couple dances, ensuring that the rich cultural heritage of Slovakia is passed down in a way that is physically engaging, socially collaborative, and deeply joyful.
